Barkbox Review : September 2014

Mako September BarkBox

Barkbox is a monthly subscription box for your furry friend. Every month you receive a box filled with a combination of toys, treats, chews, samples, or other special items. It’s a very simple process to get one of these boxes. All you have to do is go on the website. Then pick between “small and cute”, “just right”, and “big and bold”. Choose how long you want your subscription to last for. And there you have it! Just put in your payment information and Barkbox will ship you a box on the 15th of each month.

I totally forgot to write a review for our September Barkbox last month, so here it is! September marks the start of football season, so what’s a better idea for a theme than that? These items were so cute and fit perfectly with the theme this month! Inside the box, there’s a card that gives you a description of the theme and information about the items in this month’s Barkbox. Just for reference of size, Mako’s box was a “Just Right” box.

mako football 1

PetProjekt Football Tretbal

Approximate Retail Price: $9

This looks so cute and fits perfectly with this month’s theme. I honestly didn’t know there was a treat dispensing toy that looked like a football. It just goes to show that there’s something for everything. We haven’t actually tried to use it yet, since we usually like to put Mako’s meals into treat balls… And the holes in this guy are just a bit too small for his current food. But we will definitely give this football a try when we change his kibble to something smaller and rounder!

Fabdog Pom Poms

Approximate Retail Price: $10

This toy also fits the theme SO well! It’s actually a really interesting toy with a lot of different things. This is a rope toy, with tassels and tennis balls attached to it. However, within a few minutes of play, Mako already ripped a ball apart. So, we had to cut those off, but the rest of the toy has been holding up pretty well since then. It’s not Mako’s favorite toy, but maybe that’s why it’s still in tact?

mako jerky

Nootie Jerky Burger BBQ Duck ()

Approximate Retail Price: $7

You can’t tailgate a football game without burgers and beer. I love the fact that Barkbox hasn’t given us any sort of chicken treat since I told them that Mako was allergic. I’m loving these proteins! Like many of the other product in Barkbox, this treat does not contain any wheat, grain, corn, or soy. We love treats in this household, but we currently have so much that we haven’t even been able to get through them all! I guess that means our spoiled pup is just going to need more treats!

mako bacon

Petsafe Indigo Smokehouse Strips – Bacon (3oz)

Approximate Retail Price: $7

This treat looks amazing. So good that even I want a bite. This treat is vacuum sealed and needs to be refrigerated after opening. It’s 100% pork with no artificial flavors, colors or preservatives so you know you’re not giving your pooch anything harmful. There are actually quite a lot of bacon strips in here. I’ve been using them for agility training with Mako since they smell so delicious.

mako duck chew

Etta Says Duck Chew

Approximate Retail Price: $4

Mako loves these duck chews! We received one in our previous Barkbox and he just couldn’t get enough of it. We like to save these big chews for when we take him out to lunch with us or if we need him to be settled for a longer time. I think we’ll save this for a treat after we go hiking this fall. I’m sure he’ll love it.

Barkbox September 2014

That’s it for this month’s Barkbox. September’s Barkbox was great! These items were really good quality and they’re things that I can totally see Mako using. Barkboxes get cheaper the longer your subscription is, but even if you only get a 1-month subscription($29), this box would have still been worth it. If we bought everything in this box at the suggested retail price, it’d be worth about $37. Our Barkbox subscription just ended, which is a bummer! I received an email that let us know that going forward, if your puppy doesn’t like a product from their box, you can email them and they’ll send you something else! I definitely would like to be a returning customer, but we also just purchased a subscription to Petbox. After our Petbox subscription ends, we’ll probably end up going back to Barkbox though!

If you want to try barkbox for yourself, you can use this link to get $5 off your first subscription.
